Job Summary
We are looking for a highly skilled Server Engineer responsible for comprehensive hardware and operating system support of enterprise servers deployed across multiple locations. The role includes server hardware maintenance, OS management, performance optimization, backup & recovery, application support, and ensuring high availability of mission-critical IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

1. Server Hardware Maintenance
• Provide comprehensive hardware support for all enterprise servers.
• Diagnose and replace defective components including:
o Disk Controllers
o RAID Controllers
o Hot-pluggable devices
o Storage drives
o Monitors and connected peripherals
• Configure and manage:
o Disk Arrays (RAID 5, RAID 0+1, etc.)
o Tape drives
o Veritas Clusters
• Ensure proper upkeep of server racks and server rooms.
• Maintain inventory, maintenance records, and hardware fault logs.
• Coordinate with OEM/vendors for unresolved hardware issues.

2. Operating System Support
Provide complete support for multiple enterprise Operating Systems, including:
• SUN Solaris
• HP-UX
• Windows Server 2016
• Windows 10
• Linux (various distributions)
Responsibilities include:
• OS installation, reinstallation, and configuration.
• Installation/removal of software packages.
• Applying OS patches, upgrades, hotfixes, and service packs.
• Downloading and installing updates from OEM websites.
• Maintaining patch management logs.

3. Server Monitoring & Troubleshooting
• Daily monitoring of servers for performance and availability.
• Troubleshooting system issues such as:
o Server hang
o Disk crash
o Application failure
• Monitor Syslog and hardware alerts.
• Restore server operations after failures using backup data.
• Data recovery in case of disk/system crash.
• Escalate unresolved issues to OEM/vendor support.

4. Server Management & Optimization
• Quarterly system performance tuning.
• Kernel parameter optimization.
• Capacity planning and resource utilization management.
• Disk and file system cleanup and maintenance.
• Automation of disk cleanup operations.
• Adding new file systems and logical volumes.
• TCP/IP configuration and network troubleshooting.
• Route creation for organization-wide access.
• Time synchronization using NTP services.

5. Backup & Recovery Management
• Restoration of server operations from backup data.
• Regular backup verification.
• Managing backup servers.
• Disaster recovery readiness and procedures.
• Maintaining shutdown and restart SOPs.

6. Windows Server Specific Responsibilities
• Domain Controller management.
• Active Directory administration.
• Group Policy and system policy implementation.
• Security updates and OS patch management.
• Antivirus installation and virus scanning.
• File-level and share-level access control.
• DLL corruption handling.
• Share and access point management.

7. Linux/Unix Specific Responsibilities
• NFS management.
• Name services (DNS, NIS).
• Performance tuning.
• Log management.
• RAID and storage management.

8. Application & Infrastructure Support
• Support for applications running on servers including:
o Intranet
o Email servers
o Proxy servers
o DNS servers
o Web servers
o Domain Controllers
o Directory servers
o Firewall/Security servers
o Cache servers
o Print & File servers
o Backup servers
• Ensure smooth running of enterprise applications.
• Provide print management services.

9. Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain:
o Server logs
o Incident logs
o Maintenance records
o SOP documents
• Maintain updated documentation of configurations.
• Ensure compliance with IT operational standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / IT / Electronics or equivalent.
• Strong experience in enterprise server environments.
• Knowledge of:
o RAID configuration
o Storage management
o Backup & recovery
o Active Directory
o DNS, DHCP
o TCP/IP networking
• Experience in Windows Server & Linux/Unix administration.
• Hands-on experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting.
• Strong documentation and reporting skills.

• Microsoft Certified (MCSA / MCSE)
• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
• VMware Certification (if applicable)
• ITIL Certification (Preferred)
