USAJOBS federal internships: how to search, filter and apply
USAJOBS is the official job site of the US federal government. Its Early Careers internship search is built for current students, recent graduates and other eligible applicants. This guide shows you how to use it well.
What the internship search covers
The official page invites current students, recent graduates and other eligible applicants to look for federal internship opportunities.
Current students
Look for internships that fit your school year and study area, then check each announcement’s eligibility.
Recent graduates
The job type filter includes a “Recent graduates” option, so you can narrow results to early-career roles.
Other eligible applicants
Some announcements are open to additional groups. The “Who may apply” section tells you exactly which.
Listings change daily. When we checked on 9 October 2026, the internship search page showed no matching jobs at that moment, so open the live search for current openings.
Use filters to find the right internship
The USAJOBS results page lets you narrow and sort jobs in several ways.
Pay or experience
Set a minimum salary or choose a minimum and maximum General Schedule (GS) grade. USAJOBS explains that a higher grade means more experience is required, so students usually look at lower grades.
Job type
Tick the types you want. Options on the page:
Agency
Choose the departments and agencies you want to work for, or exclude the ones you do not.
Location and distance
Type a city or state, then set a distance from the city centre: 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 miles.
Sort order
Sort by recently posted, closing soon or highest salary. “Closing soon” is the best view when you are short on time.
Default filters
Save your favourite filters as defaults so every search starts the way you like.
