Where to start, by goal
A simple plan: use one or two main sites well rather than ten sites badly.
| If you want | Start here | Then add |
|---|---|---|
| A government job | The official recruiter’s website (SSC, RRB, UPSC, IBPS or the state board) | NCS portal for jobs and job fairs, and ApnaJob.in for notice summaries |
| Your first job as a fresher | NCS, Internshala, LinkedIn | Naukri and Indeed alerts for your city |
| A better job with experience | LinkedIn and Naukri | Indeed and foundit, plus company career pages |
| Remote or flexible work | LinkedIn and Indeed with the remote filter | Company career pages of remote-friendly employers |
| Work close to home | Apna and NCS | Local job fairs and Indeed alerts |
| To judge an employer | Glassdoor and AmbitionBox | Ask the recruiter for the company website and address |
Spot fake job offers
- ✓They ask for money before the interview or joining
- ✓They promise a guaranteed government job through a “contact” or “quota”
- ✓You are offered a job without any interview or test
- ✓The only contact is a personal WhatsApp number or free email, and the organisation’s own website does not show the same contact
- ✓They ask for your OTP, card PIN, bank password or UPI PIN
- ✓The salary is far above what the role normally pays
- ✓You are pushed to pay or decide in a few hours
- ✓The company has no address, website or verifiable details
If you have been cheated, report it at cybercrime.gov.in or call the national cyber crime helpline 1930 as soon as possible.
Make your profile work harder
- 1Keep your resume to one or two pages and save it as a PDF with a simple name such as Name_Role.pdf.
- 2Match your wording to the job advert. If the advert asks for “customer support”, use that phrase where it is true.
- 3Write your name and date of birth exactly as on your certificates, because government forms check them.
- 4Use a professional email address and an active mobile number, and answer unknown numbers politely.
- 5Put achievements before duties, for example “handled 40 customer calls a day” instead of “worked in a call centre”.
- 6Revisit your profile every week. Many sites show recently updated profiles first.

Frequently asked questions
Which is the best job search site in India?
There is no single best site. Government jobs are best found on the official recruiter websites and the NCS portal, while private jobs are usually searched on sites such as LinkedIn, Naukri and Indeed. Pick one or two that fit your goal.
Is the National Career Service portal free?
Yes. Registration and services on the NCS portal are free, and it is run by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
How many job sites should I use?
Two or three main ones are enough. Fill in your profile completely on each and set daily job alerts instead of spreading yourself over many sites.
How can I tell a fake job offer?
Be careful if you are asked to pay any fee, offered a job without an interview, or pushed to decide quickly. Check the organisation on its own website and confirm the contact details match.
Should I trust company reviews and salary data?
Use them as a guide. They are written by users, so they can be incomplete or out of date.
Does ApnaJob.in charge candidates anything?
No. ApnaJob.in is free for candidates and never asks for money to help you apply.
